Dr. Eva Eßlinger

Eva Eßlinger is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of German Philology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. She studied German literature, comparative literature and art history at the Universities of Munich and Mainz. From 2006 to 2009 she was a fellow of the Graduate Research Program Die Figur des Dritten at the University of Konstanz. Thereafter she was a research assistant at the Cluster of Excellence Kulturelle Grundlagen der Integration at the University of Konstanz. In 2012 she received her Ph.D. from LMU Munich. Her dissertation is entitled Das Dienstmädchen, die Familie und der Sex (The Maid servant, the Family, and Sex).
As a Junior Researcher in Residence, Eva Eßlinger will be working on her postdoctoral research project (Habilitationsprojekt) Fremde Heimkehr. Formen der Re-Integration in der europäischen Literatur. Against the backdrop of canonical ancient texts (e.g. The Odyssey and The Oresteia) the project analyzes different models of return in literary scenarios of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
