José van Dijck is a distinguished professor at Utrecht University and an expert in media studies and communication.

Her work covers a wide range of topics in media theory, media and communication technologies, social media, and digital culture. In the book The Culture of Connectivity (2013), she studies the rise of social media in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Her latest book (co-authored by Thomas Poell and Martijn de Waal) The Platform Society (2018) offers a comprehensive analysis of a connective world. From 2015 to 2018, she was the president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.

She is a Visiting Fellow in November 2018 upon invitation from Dr. Julian Müller (CAS Junior Researcher in Residence 2018/19).

On 13 November 2018 she will give a lecture on "European Public Values in an Online World".
