Prof. Shen Guanbao

Shen Guanbao is Professor of Sociology at Shanghai University as well as Vice President of Hainan University Sanya College in the Province of Hainan, China.

He is a student of the famous Chinese sociologist Fei Xiaotong and works with topics that lie at the intersection of several different research fields: primarily ethnology, sociology, economics and politics. His principal research interest is centered around the significance of ethnic minorities for the development of China, taking the example of the Li people on the island of Hainan.

Shen Guanbao will be at the CAS as a visiting fellow in November and December 2011 upon invitation from Professor Horst Helle. During his visit, he will give an evening lecture at the CAS on 6 December 2011 entitled "Some Issues in the Process of Urbanization in China".
