Prof. Stacie Goddard, Ph.D.

Stacie Goddard is Jane Bishop '51 Associate Professor of Political Science at Wellesley College.

From 2016 to 2017 she was American Council of Learned Societies Frederick Burkhardt Fellow and research fellow at the Security Studies Program at MIT. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and was postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southern California and at Princeton University.

Stacie Goddard's research engages with core issues in international security, and in particular the study of the causes and conduct of war. Her book, "Indivisible Territory and the Politics of Legitimacy: Jerusalem and Northern Ireland" (Cambridge University Press, 2009), asks how territory becomes indivisible. Further main publications include "Rhetoric, Legitimation, and Grand Strategy" (edited with Ronald R. Krebs. Security Studies. 24 (1), Spring 2015) and "When Right Makes Might: Rising Powers and World Order" (Cornell Studies in Security Affairs, 2018).

Stacie Goddard is a Visiting Fellow at CAS from May to July 2019 and is part of the CAS Research Group "Power Shifts and Institutional Change in International Institutions" of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Zangl. On 28 May she will hold a Lunch Talk together with Orfeo Fioretos on "The Future of Global Order. Institutional Adjustments to Global Power Shifts". She will also participate in the workshop "International Institutions in an Age of Global Power Shifts: Negotiating Change" on 27 and 28 June 2019.
