Christopher Ansell is Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley.

He received his B.A. in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. He is the author or editor of Governance in Turbulent Times (editor with Jarle Trondal and Morten Øgård, Oxford University Press, 2017); The Protective State (Cambridge University Press, 2019); Pragmatism and Political Crisis Management: Principle and Practical Rationality during the Financial Crisis (with Martin Bartenberger, Edward Elgar Publishing, 2019). He has written articles in the fields of organization studies, public administration, governance and policy studies and his current interests include risk regulation, crisis management, public health, and environmental protection.

Christopher Ansell’s research focuses on understanding how organizations, institutions and communities can engage effectively in democratic governance in the face of conflict, uncertainty, and complexity.

Christopher Ansell is member of the CAS Research Group "Exceptional Political Dynamics: Temporality, Turbulence, Transformation" of Prof. Dr. Klaus H. Goetz.
