Geology

Fabian Wadsworth is assistant professor in the Department of Earth Science at Durham University, UK.

He studied geology at the University of Leicester, UK, and physical volcanology at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. His doctoral research was based at LMU. In 2016, following his doctorate, he was assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at LMU. Since 2018, he has been assistant professor in the Department of Earth Science at Durham University.

Fabian Wadsworth's work brings a physics perspective to problems in volcanology, allowing predictive models for volcanic processes to be built from first principles. He has worked to validate models using novel high-temperature experiments on natural and synthetic magmas in large synchrotron facilities worldwide, recreating volcanoes in the laboratory.

He is a Visiting Fellow from February to April April 2019 in the context of the CAS Research Group "Magma to Tephra: Ash in the Earth System" led by Prof. Dr. Donald B. Dingwell.
