Arturo Sánchez-Azofeifa is director of the Center for Earth Observation Sciences and Professor at the department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of Alberta.

He is one of the world's leading experts in the fields of remote sensing and hydroecology and particularly interested in the ecosystem of tropical dry forests.

Arturo Sánchez-Azofeifa is a Visiting Fellow at CAS from April to June 2018 upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Ralf Ludwig. On 24 April 2018 he will give a lecture on "Tropical Dry Forests: The Least Understood Tropical Ecosystem, a Vision of Change in the Americas" and on 28 Mai 2018 a lecture on "Friends in high places: What do we know about the role of lianas in tropical forests?" at the Department of Geology.
