James Owen is a lecturer and Royal Society University Research Fellow at Imperial College London.

His research focuses on understanding how planets form and evolve. He is interested in the evolution of the planet-forming environments (the protoplanetary discs). These protoplanetary discs are strongly affected by the high energy radiation from the star which sets and controls their ionization structure and thus, their subsequent evolution. With the recent advent of high-resolution ALMA imaging, understanding how discs evolve and create sub-structure is one of his key research problems.

James Owen is member of the CAS Research Group "The Ionisation Structure of Planet Forming Discs and their Atmospheres" of Prof. Dr. Barbara Ercolano.
