Prof. Dr. Andrea Di Muro

Andrea Di Muro is a Researcher at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP) and works at the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de la Fournaise (OVPF) on La Réunion Island. He studied Volcanology at the University of Pisa in Italy.

He completed his doctoral thesis at the Earth Sciences Department of the University of Pisa under the supervision of Mauro Rosi and Augusto Neri. After his doctorate, he took up a postdoc position at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP) in the group of Benoit Villemant, before becoming a research assistant at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) in 2004. Since 2009 he has been a researcher at IPGP and has worked at the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de la Fournaise (OVPF) on La Réunion Island, where he has been in charge of geochemical monitoring of the volcano Piton de la Fournaise since 2013. In 2013 he completed his habilitation at the University Paris Diderot.

Andrea Di Muro's research focuses on the physicochemical processes that control the development of volcanic systems in time and space. His investigations incorporate field analyses, geochemical data on mass rock, melt and liquid inclusions, solid phase equilibria and gas composition and flows.

Andrea Di Muro is a Visiting Fellow in July 2019 in the context of the CAS Research Group "Magma to Tephra: Ash in the Earth System" led by Prof. Dr. Donald B. Dingwell.
