Prof. Dr. Matthias M. Müller

Matthias Müller is Professor of Experimental Psychology and Methods at the University of Leipzig. He holds the chair of Wilhelm Wundt, the founder of the worldwide first lab of Experimental Psychology in 1879. He studied Psychology at the Universities of Tübingen and Stoney Brook. He was post-doc at the University of Konstanz and UC San Diego and hold the chair of Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology at the University of Liver pool, before he moved to Leipzig.

Müller’s research interests are the temporal neural dynamics of visual attention. The presentation of frequency-tagged stimuli allows to study attentional resource allocation and the temporal dynamics thereof in multi element stimulus displays. Topics are feature-based and object-based attention, attention-emotion interactions and the question of proactive distractor suppression in visual search tasks.

He is a Visiting Fellow in July 2022 in the context of the CAS Research Group „Handling Visual Distraction" led by Prof. Dr. Hermann Müller.
