Environmental Physics

Antonio Costa is a researcher at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in Bologna, Italy.

He obtained his doctorate in environmental physics from the University of Bologna in 2004. Between 2005 and 2006 he was a postdoctoral research associate at the Earth Sciences Department of the University of Bristol. He was subsequently employed as researcher at the Vesuvius Observatory section of the INGV in Naples. At the same time, he was also an honorary research associate at the University of Bristol. Antonio Costa’s research focuses on the coupled fluidrock dynamics of magmatic and volcanic processes, volcanic plume dynamics, tephra dispersal and the atmospheric transport of volcanic ash and volcanic and hydrothermal gases.

He is a Visiting Fellow beginning of 2019 in the context of the CAS Research Group "Magma to Tephra: Ash in the Earth System" led by Prof. Dr. Donald B. Dingwell.
