Meredith Blackwell is Boyd Professor em. at the Louisiana State University.

She is one of the world's leading experts on fungi. She is interested in the phylogeny, systematics and natural history of fungi associated with arthropods. Fungi include minute ectoparasites and gut yeast. Her experiments are based on field work, DNA sequencing and life history studies.

Meredith Blackwell is a Visting Fellow in December 2019 upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Martha Merrow in the context of the CAS Research Focus "The How and Why of Microbiomes". On 5 December 2019 she will give a lecture on "Lilliputian Landscapes: Examples from the Gut of Beetles" in the context of the workshop "Lilliputian World: Simple Systems to Extract Functional Insights into the Gut Microbiome".
