Astrophysics

Philip Armitage is Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University, and leads the planet formation group at the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Astrophysics in New York.

He uses computational methods to study protoplanetary disks, planet formation, and problems in high-energy astrophysics. He hopes that the work of the group will advance understanding of how magnetic fields couple to gas within protoplanetary disks.

Philip Armitage is member of the CAS Research Group "The Ionisation Structure of Planet Forming Discs and their Atmospheres" of Prof. Dr. Barbara Ercolano.
