Philosophy

Markus Stepanians is Associate Professor of Political Philosophy at the Universität Bern. He graduated from the Universität Hamburg and spent several years as Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Philosophy Department in Cambridge.

Markus Stepanians’ early research interests concerned the Philosophy of Logic, Philosophy of Language, Frege and Husserl. He is the author of Frege und über Urteilen und Denken (Paderborn, 1998) and Gottlob Frege zur Einführung (Hamburg, 2001, with French and Spanish translations). He wrote his habilitation on Rights as Relational Properties (2005, unpublished) and is the Editor of Individuelle Rechte (Paderborn, 2007). The focus of his current work is Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Law, especially the theory of human rights and its history.

Markus Stepanians is member of the CAS Research Group "Relationships in Transition: Normative Challenges" of Prof. Dr. Monika Betzler.
