Philosophy

James Read is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford, and a Tutorial Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford.

His research concerns the foundations of spacetime theories, symmetries, and dualities. He is the recipient of the 2016 Gilbert Ryle Prize, the 2016 Hanneke Janssen Memorial Prize, and the 2018 Robert K. Clifton Memorial Prize. Publications include "The Interpretation of String-Theoretic Dualities" (in: Foundations of Physics, 2016) and "Functional Gravitational Energy" (in: British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, 2018).

James Read is a Visiting Fellow in July 2019 upon invitation from Dr. Neil Dewar (CAS Junior Researcher in Residence 2019).
