Philosophy

David Owens is Professor of Philosophy at King's College, London. He earned his D.Phil. at Corpus Christi College in Oxford and had previous appointments at the University of Reading, University of Sheffield, Girton College as well as Somerville College. From 1990 to 1993, he was Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the British Academy in Oxford. He held visiting appointments at All Souls College, Oxford, Yale University, London University, Sydney University, New York University and the University of Lublin.

A collection of his papers Normativity and Control was published at Oxford University Press in 2017. He is the author of the books: Shaping the Normative Landscape (Oxford, 2012), Reason Without Freedom (London, 2000) and Causes and Coincidences (Cambridge, 1992). Currently, he is working on a new monograph entitled Bound by Convention.
