Philosophy

Mianna Lotz is Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at Macquarie University in Sydney, where she teaches and researches in the fields of applied ethics, bioethics, and social philosophy. She obtained her Ph.D. in Philosophy at Monash University. She is Chair of the Arts Faculty Human Research Ethics Committee, a position she has held for 10 years.

Mianna Lotz’s main research areas are the moral and political philosophy of the family, parenthood, and childhood; vulnerability; surgical research and innovation; and reproductive ethics. Her research appears in journals such as Bioethics, Journal of Applied Philosophy and Journal of Social Philosophy, and she co-published in Lancet and Annals of Surgery. She is co-editor of a collection called Super Soldiers: The Moral, Political and Legal Implications (Farnham, 2015) and published chapters in a range of edited collections and handbooks.
