Prof. Laurent Jaffro, Ph.D.

Laurent Jaffro is Professor of Moral Philosophy at Panthéon-Sorbonne and Senior Research Fellow at the Institut Universitaire de France. He also taught at the Université Paris Nanterre - where he obtained his Ph.D. and habilitation in Philosophy -, the Université Neuchâtel, and Université Blaise Pascal Clermont-Ferrand II.

Laurent Jaffro mainly worked in the field of moral philosophy and its history, with a particular interest in the ‘British moralists’, the Scottish sentimentalists and their rationalist opponents. His current interest lies in the psychological and normative dimensions of issues of trust and distrust, blame and forgiveness. His latest book, La Couleur du goût. Psychologie et esthétique au siècle de Hume (Paris, 2019), deals with sentimentalist and rationalist approaches to value judgements. He recently published in Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society, Canadian Journal of Philosophy, Rivista di estetica, and The Philosophical Quarterly.
