Prof. John Steven Gouws

John Gouws taught English at Rhodes University for twenty-eight years and is currently Professor Extraordinary at North-West University, Potechefstroom.

His research interests are the literature and literary culture of the English Renaissance, textual scholarship and the editing of early modern texts. His editions of the prose works of Fulke Greville (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1986) and the poems of Nicholas Oldisworth for the Renaissance English Text Society (2010) are regarded as standard works in the field.

In April 2013, John Gouws will be a visiting fellow at the CAS following an invitation from Dr. Freya Sierhuis, member of the CAS Young Center. He will give a presentation on the forthcoming Clarendon edition of the works of Fulke Greville.
