Jeffrey Freedman is Professor of History at the Yeshiva University in New York.

He is a historian of the 'long 18th century', with particular interests in the French- and German-speaking worlds. His research and teaching encompasses the history of the book and media; the transnational circulation of books and ideas; the history of emotions; Enlightenment philosophy; and the genealogies of democratic political culture.

Jeffrey Freedman is a Visiting Fellow at CAS from June to July 2016 upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Christine Haug (Senior Researcher in Residence 2015/16). He will participate in the international workshop "Zur Sozialen Energie einer Europäischen Obsession: Erotisch-Pornographische Lesestoffe 1750-1850" from 27 to 29 June 2016.
