Prof. Ewan Fernie, Ph.D.

Ewan Fernie is Professor of Shakespeare Studies at the Shakespeare Institute of the University of Birmingham.

Ewan Fernie is currently one of the leading specialists on Renaissance theater and a proven expert on the works of William Shakespeare. In the course of his work on Shakespeare, he places particular emphasis on a contextualizing interpretation, being especially interested in references to religion, philosophy and other European traditions. He is the author of Shame in Shakespeare (2002) and editor of further works on Shakespeare and the Renaissance, such as Reconceiving the Renaissance: A Critical Reader (2006), Spiritual Shakespeare (2005) and the series Shakespeare Now! He is currently working on a study of the demonic from Shakespeare to Thomas Mann.

Ewan Fernie will be at the CAS in December 2012 and August 2013 upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Tobias Döring (CAS Senior Researcher in Residence 2012/13).

Doctoral student Adam Seddon will be at the CAS as a guest scholar in December along with Ewan Fernie.
