The LMU Observatory in Bogenhausen celebrated its 200th birthday in 2016. While the observation of space itself has taken a back seat recently in the scientific work there, many historical articles remain to be seen, including the world's leading telescope of its time, the Fraunhofer Refractor of 1835.

On 28 June 2017, CAS member Prof. Dr. Andreas Burkert and Dr. Arno Riffeser guided a group of CAS fellows and researchers through the rooms of the observatory, explaining the historical development of the observation and recording of the stars as well as current research projects such as the observatory at the Wendelstein.
