Bringing Negotiations Back In: Institutional Adaptations to Global Power Shifts

Tagung unter Leitung von Prof. Dr. Bernhard Zangl und Dr. Andreas Kruck (LMU).

05.11.2018 – 06.11.2018

Shifts in the international distribution of power typically lead to negotiations about the adaptation of the international order and its underlying international institutions. The current rise of emerging powers, such as China and India, and the concomitant decline of established powers, such as the US and the UK, are no exception. While existing power transition and power shift theories try to explain the results of these negotiations, they hardly study the negotiation processes that produce these results. The conference brings negotiations back into the analysis of global power shifts.
