First Cities. Early Urban Development and Urban Sustainability in Southern Iraq
As we confront devastating impacts of global climate change we must ask: How did some civil societies survive and thrive though millennia of environmental change? Why did they live, while others died? In southern Iraq, the answer lies in how towns and cities "harvested" ecosystem services provided by their wetlands – and this has direct implications for cities everywhere today.
