Some Issues in the Process of Urbanization in China
China's urbanization has been in a period of rapid development since the reform and opening up. The urbanization process can be divided into three stages over the past three decades: rural industrialization from the late 1970s to 1980s, the tide of migrant workers in the 1990s and finally the geographical expansion in the whole of China especially in super cities such as Beijing and Shanghai since the new century. The suburbs' land and population is gradually incorporated into urban system. In general, the dualistic structure is lessening step by step in the urbanization process, which leads to a series of social problems, such as rural depression, the inequality in social security, migrant workers' problem, land-lost peasants' problem and so on. Shen Guanbao to some extent will argue that the future of China's urbanization will be decided by these problems.
