Dr. Alexander Spencer

Alexander Spencer works at the Chair for Global Governance and Public Policy at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute for Political Science of the LMU. He has studied History, Spanish, Political Science as well as European Studies and International Relations at the University of Sussex, University of Bristol and the University of Granada. He finished his Ph.D. in 2010 with a thesis on the metaphorical construction of terrorism in the media.
In his project at the CAS he will be concerned with advancing his second book titled "Romantic Narratives in International Politics: Rebels, Pirates and Heroes" which is to appear with Manchester University Press. It is concerned with the narrative construction of transnational security actors such as pirates, rebel movements and private military companies and how these particular (romantic) narratives marginalize others understandings.
