Ann Fornof received her Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in Blacksbury, Virginia (USA) in the field of "Macromolecular Science and Engineering".

The scientist Ann Fornof will be at the CAS as a short-term visiting fellow from the beginning of May until the end of July 2010. Her research project focuses on "Electrically Controlled Protein Adhesion". The aim is to investigate the effect of electrical and mechanical stimuli on the interaction of amino acids with a gold substrate and to use the results for the design of electrically controllable protein adhesion. A fundamental understanding of how components of proteins, i.e. amino acids, interact with gold substrates could be helpful for the further development of biosensors, for example. She is working together at the LMU with Prof. Dr. Hermann Gaub of the Chair for Applied Physics.
