Prof. Paul Werth, Ph.D.

Previous Visiting Fellow

Paul Werth is Professor of the History of Eastern Europe at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.

His specialist areas include the history of religious and ethnic minorities in the Tsarist Russian Empire. His most well-known work, "At the Margins of Orthodoxy", appeared in 2002, published by Cornell University Press. Paul Werth is currently working on a study on discourse and practices of religious tolerance in Russia and their relationship to the development of a modern civil society.

Paul Werth will be a fellow at the CAS from mid June until the beginning of July 2011, thus following an invitation from Prof. Dr. Martin Schulze Wessel as part of the CAS research focus "Political and cultural Loyalties in modern East Central Europe".
