Peter Hanns Reill is Distinguished Professor of History at the University of California and Director of the Center for 17th & 18th Century Studies.

The emphasis of his work lies in the area of European intellectual history of the 18th century. His numerous publications include "The German Enlightenment and the Rise of Historicism" (University of California Press 1975), "Visions of Empire: Voyages, Botany and Representations of Nature" (Cambridge University Press 1996) and Vitalizing Nature in the Enlightenment (University of California Press 2005).

Peter Hanns Reill will be a visiting fellow in Munich in July 2011. Here, he will cooperate with Prof. Dr. Eckhart Hellmuth from the Department of History of the LMU as part of the project "The Science of the Political around 1800", funded by LMUexcellent.
