Matthew Davies is Professor of Urban History at Birbeck University. He previously was Director of the Centre for Metropolitan History and Pro-Dean of the School of Advanced Study, University of London.

His research interests focus on the history of medieval and early modern London. He is concerned with questions regarding the role of guilds in relation to trade and production, economic and moral codes, and in terms of religion.

In June 2011, Matthew Davies will be a visiting fellow at the CAS upon invitation from Dr. Katrina Gulliver, Faculty of History and the Arts. During his visit, he will hold a half-day workshop for scholars of the LMU on urban history.
